HISTORY & PROFILE
Bengal Tea & Fabrics Limited was incorporated in the year 1983 and later on, in the year 1985, it took over the whole undertakings of Bengal Tea & Industries Limited, earlier known as Bengal Tea Company Limited.
Bengal Tea Company Limited which was incorporated in the year 1950 by the Kanorias’ who took over the undertakings of The Ananda Assam Tea Company Limited and Asarwa Mills Limited in the year 1970 and 1972 respectively.
At present the Company has interest in the business of Tea & Textiles, with a turnover of over Rs. 2200 Millions.
Bengal Tea & Fabrics Limited has two divisions:
Tea division :
The Tea division of the Company comprises of three tea estates having a total gross area of 777.38 hectares and a planted area of 621.73 hectares and an annual production of about 1.4 Million kgs. of Black Tea with a total production capacity of around 2.4 Million kgs. The estates are located in North Lakhmipur in Upper Assam. The names of the three estates are as under:
- Ananda Tea Estate
- Pathalipam Tea Estate
- Bordeobam Tea Estate
The Ananda Tea Estate has been awarded with ISO-9001:2008 and HACCP certificate by ROHS Certification Pvt. Ltd. accredited with Dubai Accreditation Center (DAC), Member of International Accreditation Forum (IAF)and Trustea Certificate issued by Control Union Certifications.
Asarwa Mills, a Composite Textile Mill, is situated in the heart of Ahmedabad in the State of Gujarat having an installed capacity of 23952 spindles and 63 looms. It was set-up in the year 1900 and is one of the oldest mills in India. The present management has modernized the Mill in a phased manner to transform the same in a State-of-art, tech-savvy Mill. The quality of the yarn produced by the mill has been accepted not only by Indian customers but also by other countries. As a result, almost 31% of the sales are through exports to countries like China, Spain, Philippines, Portugal, Korea, Hong Kong, Italy and Taiwan etc. The Company produces different varieties of medium count Yarn and also produces Fabric, thus catering to a large customer base in the weaving and hosiery sectors in a big way. The revenue from export of yarn is about Rs.520 millions.
The Textile Division of the Company is a One Star Export House recognized by Additional Director General of Foreign Trade and has been accredited with IS/ISO 9001:2008 by Bureau of Indian Standards.
